Cabinet approves Creation of National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved creation of National Testing Agency (NTA) as a Society registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860, and as an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions.

Features:

·         The NTA would initially conduct those entrance examinations which are currently being conducted by the CBSE like NEET.

·         Other examinations will be taken up gradually after NTA is fully geared up.

·         The entrance examinations will be conducted in online mode at least twice a year, thereby giving adequate opportunity to candidates to bring out their best.

·         In order to serve the requirements of the rural students, it would locate the centres at sub-district/district level and as far as possible would undertake hands-on training to the students.

Constitution:

·         NTA will be chaired by an eminent educationist appointed by MHRD.

·         The CEO will be the Director General to be appointed by the Government.

·         There will be a Board of Governors comprising members from user institutions.

·         The Director General will be assisted by 9 verticals headed by academicians/ experts.

Finances:

NTA will be given a one-time grant of Rs.25 crore from the Government of India to start its operation in the first year. Thereafter, it will be financially self-sustainable.

Impact:

Establishment of NTA will benefit about 40 lakh students appearing in various entrance examinations. It will relieve CBSE, AICTE and other agencies from responsibility of conducting these entrance examinations, and also bring in high reliability, standardized difficulty level for assessing the aptitude, intelligence and problem solving abilities of the students.

Background:

In view of the need to have a specialized body in India like the most advanced countries, the Finance Minister in the Budget speech of 2017-18 had announced setting up of a National Testing Agency (NTA) as an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization to conduct all entrance examinations for higher educational institutions.

Subject:  Requirement  of  Aadhaar  number  for  NEET-PG  and  NEET-MDS  2018

Kind  Attn:  All  Applicant  candidates  for  NEET-PG  and  NEET-MDS  2018
Dated:  31/08/2017

1)  National  Eligibility-cum-Entrance  Test-PG  (NEET-PG)  2018  &  National  Eligibility-cum-Entrance  TestMDS  (NEET-MDS)  2018  shall  be  conducted  by  National  Board  of  Examination. 
2)  As  a  measure  to  enhance  security  of  examinations,  NBE  has  decided  to  collect  Aadhaar Number  from  all  applicant  candidates  in  NEET-PG  2018  &  NEET-MDS  2018  and  hereby notifies  the  following:
a)  Candidates,  who  are  in  possession  of  Aadhaar,  shall  provide  Aadhaar  number  during online  registration  for  NEET-PG  2018  &  NEET-MDS  2018  for  the  purpose  of  his/her identity  and  authentication  thereof.  
b)  Candidates,  who  have  not  yet  enrolled  for  Aadhaar,  are  hereby  required  to  apply  for Aadhaar  enrolment  in  case  he/she  is  entitled  to  obtain  Aadhaar  as  per  Aadhaar  Act. Such  applicant  may  visit  any  Aadhaar  enrolment  centre  (list  available  at www.uidai.gov.in)  to  get  enrolled  for  Aadhaar.  
c)  Candidates  who  have  enrolled  for  Aadhaar  but  have  not  received  Aadhaar  should  enter his  /her  14  digits  Aadhaar  Enrolment  ID  (including  slash)  printed  on  the  Aadhaar enrolment  slip  at  the  time  of  online  registration  for  NEET-PG  2018  &  NEET-MDS  2018.
3)  The  above  provisions  shall  be  applicable  for  all  candidates  except  for  candidates  who  are domicile  of  J&K,  Assam  &  Meghalaya.  However,  candidates  with  domicile  from  the  states  of J&K,  Assam  &  Meghalaya  are  required  to  provide  their  Aadhaar  if  they  had  been  issued Aadhaar  card.
4)  The  candidates  who  are  domicile  of  the  states  of  J&K,  Assam  &  Meghalaya  (if  not  having Aadhaar  Card)  need  to  enter  the  Passport  Number/PAN  Number/Driving  Licence/Voter  ID

JAMMU, May 19: Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today upheld the judgment of the Writ Court mentioning that NRHM doctors are eligible for the benefits of Regulation 9 of MCI Regulations 2000 which provides that a doctor who has served in difficult/remote areas shall be entitled to 10% additional marks for each completed year of service. read more》》
